Schwarz-Schilling Welcomes Nomination of CoM Chair; Urges Rapid Return to Reform Agenda

The High Representative and EU Special Representative, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, today welcomed the Presidency’s nomination of a Chair of the Council of Ministers in the wake of yesterday’s agreement between representatives of seven political parties to form a state-level government in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Schwarz-Schilling also congratulated the Presidency on the constructive role it had played in assisting party leaders to come to this agreement.

The High Representative and EU Special Representative expressed his hope that the required parliamentary procedure for the formation of government will be completed as soon as possible. “Now that the Presidency had done its job, it is time for a speedy resumption of the inaugural session of the House of Representatives, so as to complete the process of government formation”, he said.

Commenting on the agreed programme goals, the High Representative/EU Special Representative expressed satisfaction that the new government will focus on meeting conditions for the signing of a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union and anchoring Bosnia-Herzegovina firmly on the path of Euroatlantic integration.

“The agreed programme goals should pave the way for a speedy return to the reform agenda, in line with the European Partnership priorities,” Schwarz-Schilling said. “The citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina should not be made to wait a day longer than necessary for work to begin on solving the many problems that affect this country.”
