Lajčák Briefs the EU’s Political and Security Committee in Brussels

High Representative/EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák continued his visit to Brussels today. Together with Deputy Supreme Commander of Allied Forces for Europe General John McColl and Head of EU Police Mission (EUPM) General Vincenzo Coppola, he briefed the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC) on the political and security situation in BiH.

The European Union has given a clear European perspective to Bosnia-Herzegovina, but it is up to BiH to decide whether or not it wants to take up that perspective. To pave the way to the European Union, the current artificial political crisis must be overcome. Institutions need to function and the politicians have to lead the country forward. Boycotts and conflicts are not the way forward and into Europe, the High Representative/EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák said.

The European Union supports the Mostar Declaration as an expression of the will of leading BiH politicians to move forward police reform, which remains a key EU requirement. What is now required is to begin implementing the goals agreed in the Declaration, first and foremost by drafting new laws.

If leading politicians have the will to move forward, they have the full support of the European Union.
