Reforms necessary for bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union and a resolution of the issue of state property were the focus of discussions between High Representative Miroslav Lajčák and BiH Presidency Chair Nebojša Radmanović in Sarajevo today.

The European Union is not satisfied with the situation in BiH, which is characterized by unconstructive mutual accusations between the coalition partners, rather than by a reform zest that would addresses the core problems of the country and improve the lives of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lajčák said.

The High Representative emphasized that blackmail and threats were not an acceptable method of conducting political talks in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “All partners in government must realize that without compromise, sincere dialogue and resulting reforms there can be no progress on the path to the European Union.”

Speaking of the attacks on judicial and other institutions in BiH, Lajčák pointed out that politicians must refrain from making comments on ongoing investigations. “The rule of law implies non-interference of government bodies and political parties with the work of judicial institutions and the police”, he said.
