EU Info Centre successfully organised children’s workshop “Art of Recycling”

On 29th October, in front of the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, the EU Info Centre organised a workshop as an educational and entertaining event titled “The Art of Recycling.”

More than two hundred elementary school students of the sixth and seventh grade got the opportunity to reuse daily waste, i.e. plastic packaging, newspapers etc. to create practical items for daily use and decorative works of art. They were mentored by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.

“During the workshop, children had the opportunity to learn in a short time to make functional and decorative objects made of materials that are within our grasp, or breathe new life into existing items,” said Sabrina Beširević, one of the mentors of the workshop.

The aim of the event was to show interesting and creative ways in which used plastic bottles and other containers can be used to create engaging and practical items, to explain how the recycling system functions and to point out the advantages of this way of thinking.

“The workshop participants were able to see the exhibition ‘Walters three love’ that was opened in collaboration with JU Protected natural areas of Sarajevo Canton and Photo-Video Club Valter that promotes BiH natural heritage and the need for its preservation, therefore the educational mission of the museum was completely fulfilled,” said Elma Hašimbegović, director of the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo.
