Premiere of “Reality Check” Film

The EU Info Centre in BiH hosted the premiere of the film “Reality Check” on September 16. The film was produced under the “European Union Support to Law Enforcement” project, financed through the Instrument for Pre Accession (IPA 2010) in the amount of EUR 7 million. Launched in May 2012 to assist in enhancing police and prosecutors’ capacities and cooperation in the fight against organised crime and corruption within BiH and across its borders, the project ended on 31 August 2014.

“The way in which BiH law enforcement authorities assumed responsibility and participated in this project can certainly be seen as an example of best practice in cooperation. It is such involvement and support that has made this investment of 7 million Euros a very effective use of EU taxpayers’ money,” said Renzo Daviddi, Deputy Head of EU Delegation to BiH.

The project’s results extend into various fields. The first BiH Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment, the same as those conducted in EU Member States, was developed and adopted as well as the Organised Crime Strategy for 2014-2016. The roadmap for personal data protection in police bodies, as one of the requirements for operational cooperation with Europol, was prepared. Once adopted, the legal standards developed by the Project will enable the seizure of the proceeds of crime across the country.

The Project was coordinated by the Ministry of Security of BiH. “The launch of this Project sent a clear message to BiH to assume responsibility for the rule of law agenda in the country. I believe that the Ministry of Security, in cooperation with all the law enforcement agencies, has justified the confidence placed in us and met all the tasks set, successfully concluding the project,” said Mladen Ćavar, Deputy Minister of Security of BiH.

The cooperation between the EU and BiH will continue in the rule of law sector. “We will continue supporting the progress achieved. With the two new projects in the pipeline, we will go to greater depths in the fight against money laundering and corruption, investigating economic crime, as well as improving professional standards within the police,” concluded Daviddi.
