After the meeting of EUROSTAT Director Pieter Everaers and BiH Minister of Transport and Communications Damir Hadzic, the International Monitoring Operation (IMO) gave a positive assessment of preparations for the implementation of the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in Bosnia and Herzegovina in October 2013.
“The obligation of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming period is to take full responsibility for the census. We need to meet the last preconditions and do much more, but also be aware of importance of raising the awareness of our citizens about this issue in process and procedures of conducting census – an activity that hasn’t been carried out for 22 years on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina” said Damir Hadzic, BiH Minister of Transport and Communications.
The IMO is comprised of representatives of EUROSTAT, chairing the Management Group, European Commission Directorate-General for Enlargement, CoE (Council of Europe), UNSD (United Nations Statistics Directorate), UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) and UNFP (United Nations Population Fund).
“I congratulate Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister Hadzic on the progress achieved in the past few months, particularly on the progress in technical issues for the implementation of the census. I also appeal for all others to continue in their activities, which will enable implementation of the Census in October. Please note that all tasks still haven’t been completed and that the next four months will be of great importance for completion of other technical details” said Pieter Everaers, Director at EUROSTAT.
The BiH Census will cost about 46 million BAM, which is the current estimate formed in accordance with the financial plan adopted by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and which was the foundation for a contract signed between the EU and BiH for co-financing the Census with 7.5 million EUR. The contract was signed after the meeting, by the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Renzo Daviddi and director of the Agency for Statistics of BiH Zdenko Milinovic.
