Europe Day in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On and around Europe Day, the European Union’s institutions get out in the community with   the public and invite citizens to celebrate the EU’s achievements – including lasting peace, economic cooperation and border-free travel.

The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina/ EUSR is inviting all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to join in the celebration and take part in events in Zenica at Alija Izetbegović Square, at the Youth Square in Brčko, at the Banja Luka concert of Neuro and Vanja the Frog, and at the Run to Europe in Sarajevo.

On 9 May in Zenica, an open-air event will be held at Alija Izetbegović Square in the centre of Zenica starting at 13:00 with the opening of the “EU in Art” exhibition by Mayor Husein Smajlović and Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation/ EUSR. 

The “EU in Art“initiative has been underway since March. Young artists from Sarajevo, Brčko, Čelinac, Maoča, Visoko, Bijeljina, Bihać, Banja Luka, Gradiška, Višegrad and Tuzla have taken part. At the Zenica event the artists judged by an expert panel to have produced the best work will be recognised at an award ceremony by Mayor Smajlović and Ambassador Sorensen. Pupils from Zenica Music High School and majorettes from Kiseljak will perform at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Europe week continues on 10 May in Banja Luka with a concert  by the popular bands Neuro and Vanja the Frog at the Kastel venue. Doors will open at 19:15 and the concert will run until 22:30. Entrance is free!

Citizens of Brčko will have an opportunity to join in the Europe Week celebrations on 11 May at the Youth Square, starting at noon with a performance by students of Brčko Music School. A “Teenage Show” theatre play performed by Brčko’s Harlekin theatre will be also staged there. EU Birthday cake, face painting, trampoline are just part of the street celebrations scheduled in Brčko Youth square. .

The traditional Run to Europe, a 4-km race, will take place in Sarajevo on Sunday, 12 May 2013. The race for children under 12 begins at 10.00 (BBI-Eternal Flame-BBI) and the race for adults (BBI-Titova Street-Musala- Obala Kulina Ban–Telali-Mula Mustafa Bašeskije) begins at 10.30.
