Statement by Commissioner Olli Rehn following his meeting with HR/EUSR for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Miroslav Lajcak

Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn met High Representative and EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr Miroslav Lajcak today in Brussels. They reviewed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress in meeting the requirements for concluding the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU, in particular they discussed the long overdue police reform.

Following the meeting Commissioner Rehn said: “I fully support the police reform proposal presented by Mr Lajcak to the party leaders at the end of August. The proposal is fully in line with the three EU principles, set out by the Commission. I strongly encourage all political parties to continue to work constructively with Mr. Lajcak on the basis of his proposal and reach a comprehensive agreement without delay.”

Without an agreement on police reform in accordance with the EU’s three principles, the EU is unable to conclude a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
