Statement by Commissioner Olli Rehn’s Spokesperson, Krisztina Nagy, on yesterday’s adoption of police reform laws by the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly

“The Commission welcomes the adoption of the police reform laws yesterday in the House of Representatives, one of the two chambers of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is now important that the House of Peoples, the second chamber of Parliament, completes the legislative procedure by urgently adopting the same laws.

Yesterday’s adoption of the police reform laws represents a major step forward towards signature of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU.

The Commission is pleased that the elected representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina have listened to the voices of their citizens in favour of European integration, prosperity and progress, and achieved the majority vote required to adopt the police reform laws in the House of Representatives. We hope the same will happen now in the House of Peoples.

Once the police reform laws have been adopted, the European Commission and the Council will jointly assess Bosnia and Herzegovina’s overall progress on police reform, and on the other conditions for signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, before taking further steps.”
