European Commission – Youth in Action Programme

Youth in Action is the new EU Programme in the field of youth, which is being implemented from 1 January 2007 until 31 December 2013 with a total budget of 885 million euros. It is a key instrument in providing young people with opportunities for non-formal and informal learning with a European dimension.

Youth in Action Programme encourages the involvement of young people with fewer opportunities and addresses young people aged between 13 and 30. It offers young people opportunities for mobility and active participation in the construction of Europe. It aims to contribute to building a “ Europe of knowledge” and to create a European arena for co-operation in the development of youth policy, based on non-formal education. It encourages the concept of lifelong learning and the development of skills and competencies, which promote active citizenship.

This programme offers financial support to projects of young people, provides information, training and opportunities to develop new partnerships across Europe and beyond. General objectives of the Youth in Action Programme are to promote young people’s active citizenship in general and their European citizenship in particular; to develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people, in particular in order to foster social cohesion in the European Union; to foster mutual understanding between young people in different countries; to contribute to developing the quality of support systems for youth activities and the capabilities of civil society organisations in the youth field and to promote European cooperation in the youth field.
