Ambassador Dimitris Kourkoulas, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in BiH, stresses in the context of the nomination of new judges of the FBiH Constitutional Court the importance of respecting the procedural rules which intend to protect the independence of the judiciary. Each attack on the fundamental principle of independence of the judiciary from political interference would have a serious impact, said Kourkoulas. The credibility of the justice system and its institutions in BiH would be damaged and the positive developments, which the European Commission registered in the last years for the judiciary reform in BiH, would be put into question. This could not remain without consequences also for the EC support for BiH, assessed Kourkoulas and reminded strongly the responsible institutions to respect the relevant laws in place.
