Statement by the Delegation of the European Commission on the draft law for the protection of domestic production

The European Commission Delegation wishes to clarify that contrary to media reports, the proposed law for the protection of domestic production, which has been proposed by a MP of the People’s Party Work for Progress (NSRZB), has not been officially forwarded to the Commission for comments and has not received a favourable opinion by the Commission.

The Head of Delegation of the European Commission, Ambassador Kourkoulas addressed a letter to the Speaker of the BiH House of Peoples on 10 March, which clearly pointed out the risks of a possible breach of the CEFTA provisions and possible negative implications for the SAA obligations. These risks were again underlined by Ms. Paola Pampaloni, the Head of Unit for Bosnia and Herzegovina within the Directorate General for Enlargement at the European Commission Headquarters in Brussels, in her recent interview with a local media.

The European Commission calls again on the BiH Parliament not to adopt the proposed law in the forthcoming second reading and calls for the provisions of the existing CEFTA agreement to be applied for settling any disputes which any CEFTA party might perceive.
