Implementation of projects under Cross Border Cooperation programme Bosnia and Herzegovina-Monte Negro started

Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina met today with grant beneficiaries who were awarded grants under the Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro Cross Border Cooperation programme.  The meeting was organised together with the European Union Delegation to Montenegro.

Addressing the participants, Mr. Johann Hesse, Head of Operation Section for Economic Development, Natural Resources and Infrastructure at the European Union Delegation to BiH stated: „12 projects were awarded the grants in the 1st Call for Proposals, which combined the 2007 and 2008 IPA funds allocations for CBC projects between BiH and MNE for the amount of 900.000,00 euro.”

The 12 successful projects were selected out of a total of 38 applications received. These numbers demonstrate the high level of interest and need for initiatives like this in the region.

The cross border cooperation programme is designed to foster joint sustainable development of the cross-border area, its economic, cultural, natural and human, resources and potentials by strengthening the capacities of human resources and joint institutional networks among local communities and local private and public actors.

Today’s meeting provided an opportunity for grant beneficiaries (municipalities, NGOs, public utilities and other) to clarify issues concerning project implementation, procurement procedures and other contractual obligations.

The cross-border programme Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro is implemented under Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA). The eligible area covers the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. The eligible area in Bosnia and Herzegovina part of consists of 56 municipalities while there are 13 municipalities in the Montenegrin part (12 in eligible and one in adjacent area).
