EU provides new equipment for Centre for social work in Šamac

The Centre for Social Work in Šamac, which was completely flooded and destroyed during 2014, received new equipment and furniture through the EU-funded project “Reinforcement of local democracy IV – LOD IV”, on 8 December.

Government of Switzerland, Government of Kingdom of Norway and Municipality of Šamac earlier provided funds for reconstruction of the building.

Centre is providing numerous services for local community including support to the most vulnerable citizens, children and elderly with disabilities. Capacities of the Centre have now been increased so it can provide services for more than 1500 beneficiaries annually. Daily centre for children and youth is expected to be soon opened in the reconstructed building, introducing a new type of support.

The LOD Project also organized training for parents, psycho-social support groups, workshops for parents of children with disabilities, as well as exchange of best practices with the Daily centre from Derventa.

Reinforcement of Local Democracy IV – LOD IV is a project funded by the European Union from the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) in the amount of 2,000,000 EUR and implemented by the UNDP.
