Ambassador Wigemark sends condolences following helicopter crash in Pakistan

The Head of the EU Delegation to BiH/EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, together with his wife Mrs Rebekah Naomi Wigemark, have sent their deepest condolences to those bereaved by the helicopter crash in Pakistan today. A helicopter of the Pakistani army carrying foreign diplomats crashed upon landing this morning in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. According to information received from the Pakistani Army, four foreigners and two Pakistani citizens were killed, among them the Ambassadors of Norway and the Philippines and the wives of the Indonesian and Malaysian ambassadors.

Ambassador Wigemark served as Head of the EU Delegation to Pakistan until the end of March 2015.

Ambassador Wigemark and Mrs Wigemark stated:

“We feel deep grief and sorrow for the loss of lives in the helicopter crash in Gilgit-Baltistan. Our friends, the Norwegian Ambassador Leif Larsen, the Philippine Ambassador Domingo Lucenario, as well as the wife of the Ambassadors of Malaysia, Habibah Mahmud and the wife of the Indonesian Ambassador, Heri Listyawati Burhan Muhammad, were among those killed as well as two brave pilots and a crew member. We extend our deepest condolences, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families.

“We wish a full and speedy recovery to our friends, Indonesian Ambassador Burhan Muhammad, Polish ambassador Andrzej Ananicz, his wife Zofia Ananicz and Dutch ambassador Marcel de Vink, who were also injured also in the crash.”
