Commenting on the decision today by the BiH Council of Ministers on the negotiating team for a future Agreement between EUROPOL and BiH, EUD/EUSR spokesperson Andy McGuffie said:

“This is an important step forward by the Council of Ministers. An operational agreement between EUROPOL and BiH will contribute to tackling cross border crime more effectively through enhanced cooperation with EUROPOL, including through exchange of personal data. More international co-operation means less places for criminals to hide. Naturally this will need to be balanced with a high level of data protection for citizens.

“Now the priority is to swiftly continue with all necessary formalities, with a view to starting negotiations on an operational agreement between BiH and EUROPOL.”
