Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, met today in Sarajevo Babür Hizlan, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Turkey Political Director.

Ambassador Sorensen and Mr. Hizlan discussed Turkey’s engagement in BiH and its role in the economic development of the country. Turkey also continues to play a strong and valuable role in the military mission in BiH, EUFOR ALTHEA. Turkey is one of the largest contributors to the EUFOR mission, which continues to support the BiH authorities in maintaining a safe and secure environment and to provide capacity-building and training support to the BiH Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces.

Ambassador Sorensen emphasised the importance of the role Turkey plays in the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) Steering Board for BiH as well as on a regional level.

Ambassador Sorensen and Mr. Hizlan also discussed importance of education, including the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools and universities in BiH, and countering segregation and discrimination in education.
