Housing project for socially vulnerable families kicks off

The official implementation of the EU funded project “Social Housing System – Development of an integrated model in theory and practice” has started on 2 July 2013.


In the next 20 months of project’s implementation, permanent housing for 62 socially vulnerable families will be provided and adoption of strategies and relevant social care legislation initiated at the state level.


The project will develop and recommend an integrative sustainable model of social housing with special emphasis on the socially vulnerable categories, provide opportunities for access to social services for vulnerable groups and construct six apartment buildings with 62 residential units in six project locations, municipalities Jablanica, Prozor-Rama and Stari Grad Sarajevo in BiH Federation, the city of Bijeljina in Republika Srpska and Brcko District BiH.


Representatives of administrative bodies in targeted locations will be trained and coordinated by experienced staff of Hilfswerk Austria International and Foundation for Local Democracy, as well as directly involved in the implementation of project activities, providing basic prerequisites for their successful implementation.


The total project value is € 1,679,000, out of which 1 million Euros was provided by the European Union and € 679,000 by the local authorities and Hilfswerk Austria International.


The project is implemented by Hilfswerk Austria International in partnership with the Foundation for Local Democracy in BiH.
