High Representative and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák today warned politicians in BiH not to use Srebrenica as a pre-electoral tool for scoring political points. “What Srebrenica needs most is economic recovery for sustainable return – that’s what will bring people back to Srebrenica. Empty pre-electoral rhetoric, which does not respect the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and plays with emotions for cheap political gain, not only discourages returns, but is harmful and presents a danger to the whole country”, Lajčák said in a video answer published in response to a question on the www.reci.ba website. The High Representative and EU Special Representative recalled this week’s cross-party support for changes to the BiH Electoral Law to meet the moral challenge of the human tragedy and genocide in Srebrenica. “In the wake of this good and important decision, I want to warn all political parties against undermining the responsibility and maturity that they demonstrated in this process by resorting to irresponsible rhetoric that uses Srebrenica as a pre-electoral tool”, Lajčák concluded.
