Statement by Miroslav Lajčák on the publication of the European Commission Progress Report on BiH

The European Commission report has very precisely identified areas in which BiH has achieved progress as well as those where such progress, unfortunately, has not occurred.

We all expected that after signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement the political elite would focus wholely on the European integration process. This has not happened. The continued nationalist and inflammatory rhetoric has a negative impact on the whole country and has slowed down reforms.

We all know that there has been no visible progress in combating corruption. BiH does not operate as a single economic space. Fight against the organized crime must also be a priority. In addition the issue of the reform of the BiH constitution has to be addressed.

On Monday, Foreign and Defence Ministers of the European Union will discuss the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and will take into account this report. It is clear to everyone that the European Union will pay much more attention to the situation in BiH, and in accordance with it develop its strategy.

The politicians in BiH have to focus their attention on the obligations in the EU Partnership. This should be their workplan in the coming period.
