The OHR and EUSR welcome yesterday’s appointment of ombudsmen to the Institution of Ombudsmen for Human Rights of BiH. With the vote in the BiH House of Peoples this long overdue appointment procedure has now been completed. The appointment of Jasminka Dzumhur, Ivo Bradvica and Ljubomir Sandic is a first step towards the full implementation of the Law on the Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH, a Council of Europe post accession requirement for Bosnia and Herzegovina and a short-term priority in the European Partnership document with BiH. The OHR and EUSR now look to the competent institutions to press ahead with the merger of Entity and State Ombudsmen Institutions and transferring their responsibilities to the State Ombudsmen’s office as required by the BiH Law.
