Inzko in London: More Efforts Needed for OHR Transition

The current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the progress achieved in meeting the objectives and conditions for OHR transition, and BiH’s obligations from the Stabilization and Association Agreement were the focus of discussions between High Representative and Special Representative of the European Union, Valentin Inzko, with senior officials of the British Foreign Office in London today.

Inzko stressed that BiH has made progress by adopting the amendment incorporating Brčko into the Constitution of BiH and establishing the State Property Inventory Commission, but that additional efforts are needed to meet in full all the objectives and conditions established by the Peace Implementation Council, such as implementing existing agreements on moveable and immovable defence property.

Political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina must undertake concrete steps to translate their declarative support for EU and NATO membership into accelerated progress of the country. “The economy and politics should go hand in hand: reforms must continue and European standards must be adopted, not only for the sake of moving closer to the EU and NATO, but because it would improve the lives of all citizens“, the HR/EUSR said.

UK officials underlined their country’s full support for the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and urged BiH authorities to increase efforts to meet the required conditions.

Following his visit to London, the High Representative and EU Special Representative will be in Paris tomorrow, where he will hold talks with senior officials of the French Foreign Ministry.
