High Representative and EU Special Representative Addresses NATO North Atlantic Council

The High Representative and EU Special Representative, Valentin Inzko, was in NATO Headquarters in Brussels today to meet NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and address the North Atlantic Council (NAC).

The High Representative and EU Special Representative outlined political developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the progress on the reform agenda, as well as the country’s prospects for Euro-Atlantic integration.

Underlining his full support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s recent application to join the Membership Action Plan (MAP) HR/EUSR Inzko said; “I expect that the State budget for 2010 will assure the funding needed for the continued modernization of BiH’s armed forces”.

Bosnia and Herzegovina still needs to make progress towards transferring the ownership of the sixty-nine locations required for future defence purposes to the State and demonstrate sustained and concrete progress in implementing the “Individual Partnership Action Plan” and the “Planning and Review Process”.

“Tying BiH into NATO would prove invaluable to BiH’s relations in the region and will give a boost to the EU integration process” said HR/EUSR Inzko.

High Representative and EU Special Representative Inzko expressed his gratitude to NATO Secretary General Rasmussen for NATO’s continued engagement in, and commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He thanked NATO’s North Atlantic Council for the continued high level of attention that they have given to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the commitment to allow BiH to become a full member of the Alliance adopted through individual member’s legislatures.
