Inzko Meets UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

High Representative and EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York late yesterday. Updating the UN Secretary General on political developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the HR/EUSR also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 1895 extending the EUFOR mandate to the end 2010.

There is a “fundamental political debate which has so far failed to resolve key political problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina” said HR/EUSR Inzko. Noting that BiH is a society with “specific ways of producing consensus” HR/EUSR Inzko said that he was confident that “BiH will find a way.”

The current three-year downward political cycle has exposed the structural deficiencies of the Dayton Agreement, which must be rectified. “The International Community is working intensively with its partners in the country to resolve these issues,” said Inzko. “There is a sustained international effort to integrate Bosnia and Herzegovina into Euro-Atlantic structures.”
