More Constructive Dialogue Needed To Tackle Economic Downturn

In his address to Ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee, a key EU foreign policy body, in Brussels today EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko highlighted the recently improved relations in the region and noted that this is something that the EU has been calling for.

EUSR Inzko welcomed progress towards securing visa-free travel for BiH citizens and the recent adoption of the Annex VII Strategy on refugee return by the Parliamentary Assembly. However, much remains to be done to address the reforms needed by BiH, and expected by the citizens, especially with regard the challenges resulting from the current economic crisis. “This requires BiH politicians and authorities to engage more constructively in dialogue and search for compromise,” said EUSR Inzko.

The HR/EUSR told representatives of the twenty-seven EU member states that he would continue to engage politicians and citizens in public debate to highlight the importance and the benefits of the EU integration process. He said that the election campaign should be focused on the issues citizens are most concerned about; job creation and raising living standards.
