HR/EUSR Inzko meets ICTY Chief Prosecutor Brammertz

High Representative and EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko met today at the OHR in Sarajevo with ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz.

The HREUSR briefed the Chief Prosecutor on political developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina since their last meeting in April this year.

He stated with regret that little progress has been made on outstanding issues related to war crimes, such as the implementation of the National War Crimes Strategy, and he said the OHR will monitor this process closely.

He added that regional cooperation on the prosecution of war-crimes cases continues to be of key importance, and he said the pursuit of truth and justice is the only way to achieve lasting peace and reconciliation.

The HREUSR expressed his full support for the Chief Prosecutor’s public call for intensified efforts to apprehend Ratko Mladic, and transfer him to the custody of the ICTY.

He said the OHR would continue to work closely with the ICTY to ensure that it receives the full cooperation of the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
