HR/EUSR Inzko meets US officials

High Representative and EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko has held high-level talks in Washington over the last two days, in which he outlined the challenges Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing on its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

In discussions with high-ranking US officials from the State Department and the National Security Council, HR/EUSR Inzko emphasized the need for quick formation of a state-level government in BiH..

“Political leaders need to change course and recreate the momentum for reform. The elections offer the chance for a fresh start,” Inzko said. “BiH leaders should take this chance. They will be held responsible for their country’s development and progress in the next four years.”

Key challenges include putting the country back on the road to Euro-Atlantic integration and reaching consensus on a comprehensive constitutional reform. These processes need strong support from key players, such as the US and the EU.

The High Representative will speak tomorrow (11 November) at Columbia University, before going on to present his report to the United Nations Security Council covering the period 1 May to 22 October 2010.
