HR/EUSR Inzko and MEP Doris Pack Call for Immediate Government Formation

Today in Sarajevo the High Representative and EU Special Representative, Valentin Inzko, met the European Parliament’s rapporteur on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Doris Pack. The focus of the discussion was the blockade in government formation at Canton, FBiH and State levels.

“Four months after the October elections voters are witnessing only stalemate and irresponsible politics,” HR/EUSR Inzko said during the meeting.

MEP Pack said it was “frustrating and disappointing” that assembly members and parties in four cantons continue to obstruct the formation of the Federation House of Peoples, and by extension, other institutions in the country including the BiH House of Peoples. She pointed out that this is completely unacceptable, as Bosnia and Herzegovina “desperately needs functional institutions.”

MEP Pack emphasised that if the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina work according to European laws and standards then the EU will respond in a positive way. She added, however, that if obstructionism prevails, then the EU will look into applying adequate tools against those responsible for political stagnation.
