Ambassador Sorensen addresses medical congress in Sarajevo

Head of EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, addressed participants of the 1st Euro-Asian Melanoma Congress in Sarajevo last night. Three hundred participants, from more than 20 countries, representing four medical disciplines gathered in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Congress which is taking place from 18 to 21 September.

“Unfortunately, skin cancer is spreading among humans. According to the World Health Organisation, the number of new cases is 3% to 7% higher each year. Only in Europe, 54 thousand people suffer from skin cancer every year. Helping to raise awareness of this danger is why I have been a patron of Euromelanoma in Bosnia and Herzegovina ever since I arrived in the country in 2011”, Ambassador Sorensen said at the opening of the Congress.

The Western Balkans countries are in a group of countries with the highest rate of skin cancer in Europe.
