Sorensen: Election winners will have huge responsibility to move country forward

“The European Union will follow the election process in Bosnia and Herzegovina closely and we welcome the deployment of the ODIHR Observation Mission”, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Peter Sorensen said in a meeting with Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, Ms Corien Jonker, in Sarajevo on Monday, 15 September 2014.

Ambassador Sorensen stressed the importance of domestic observation and participation, particularly the activities of the “Pod lupom” coalition, and called on BiH citizens to vote in the October general elections. “If you do not vote, you’ve voted for the person who has won”, HoD/EUSR Sorensen said, also underlining that whoever is elected in October has a huge responsibility to get the country moving especially through the economic reforms outlined in the Compact for Jobs and Growth.

“It’s about what citizens expect, first and foremost. Both BiH citizens and the EU Member States want this country to join the EU. And every survey in this country shows that citizens want a better life – they want jobs, better salaries and pensions, good education and health systems  and a strong fight against corruption. With their votes, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will choose who they think is best to do that work and get those results,” Ambassador Sorensen concluded.
