European Commission delegation visits BiH Constitutional Court

A Delegation of the European Commission led by Ms Paola Pampaloni, Head of Unit for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Directorate General for Enlargement, paid a courtesy visit to the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday February 11 2014. The EC stressed that the Constitutional Court plays an essential role in the entrenchment of the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in particular in the context of war crimes cases. In this regard, the EC strongly supports the Constitutional Court in preservation of its independence and in upholding the BiH Constitution while operating in a complex legal and political framework.  The EC underlines that final and binding authority of Constitutional Court decisions shall be fully observed.

EC representatives were also informed that the new draft Rules of Procedure of the Court, currently under preparation, address also the procedure for the election of the Court’s president/Vice-presidents, in line with the relevant recommendation of the EU-BiH Structured Dialogue on Justice.

EU stands ready to continue the dialogue with the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
