Improving the position of people with rare diseases

The Association XY in close cooperation with the EU, started in January 2013 the implementation of the EU funded project “Contribution of civil society organisations in improvement of position of people with rare diseases in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

During the next 24 months of the envisaged period of project implementation, the Association XY intends to establish a strategic framework for improvement of health protection for people with rare diseases in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Association will also work on developing and enhancing capacities of civil society organisations (CSO) for partner dialogue with government authorities, creation and implementation of policies and programmes from the area of health protection.

Expected project results are:
• Assessed situation and life quality of people living with rare diseases in BiH;
• Created Strategies on rare diseases for Federation of BiH and Republika Srpska
• Capacity building of CSO Network members through set of trainings;
• Shared knowledge, expertise and best practices with Croatian Coalition of Health Organizations;
• Strategic organizational documents developed by CSO Network members for its functioning;
• Implementation of public campaign aimed to raise awareness of BiH citizens about key related issues of rare diseases;

Partners of the Association in the project implementation are Youth organisation “Centar” Mrkonjić Grad, Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Republika Srpska, Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers BiH and Coalition of Associations in Healthcare.

The Association XY is non-governmental and non-profit organisation, established in 2001, thereafter actively working in field of health and now for the first time in the field of rare diseases.

The EU funds this project in the amount of 180.419,33 EUR under the Instrument of Pre–Accession Assistance (IPA 2012).
