The Third Regional Conference „Youth for Peace“held today in the EU House

The Third Regional Conference „Youth for Peace“ was held today in the EU House (EU Delegation to BiH/EUSR) in Sarajevo as the final activity of the project “Youth Peace Advocates in Eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

The project was supported by the European Union’s Instrument for Stability in the amount of 485.000 EUR and implemented since 2009 by the CARE International North-West Balkans.

The aim was to increase stability and peace process in Eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina through support to the youth organisations and their activities. More than 10,000 young people of different backgrounds between the age of 15 and 30 jointly participated in the project activities thus promoting the idea of human rights among their peers and in their communities in Srebrenica, Vlasenica and Bratunac.

The event opened music performance by the Assemble ‘Fugato’ from Zenica, multi-ethnic group of young professional musicians. Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Mr. Renzo Daviddi, and Program Director of the CARE International NWB, Ms. Sumka Bucan, addressed the attendees.

Commending group of young people from who overcame their differences and worked together on a successful project over the past three years, Mr. Daviddi stated: “You are all future citizens of the European Union, and are therefore the principal stakeholders in the process of European integration. Their values of tolerance and respect towards one another are some of the key European values that will get this country into the Union.”
Deputy Head of EU Delegation to BiH stressed other serious challenges young people in BiH face, such as unemployment and need for better education and asked them to voice their concerns to the policy makers in BiH.

The Third Regional conference continued with participants sharing their experiences from the project and presenting results.
