Ambassador Wigemark meets Rais ul-Ulama Kavazovic

Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, met today in Sarajevo with the Head of the Islamic Community in BiH, Rais ul-Ulama ef. Husein Kavazovic.

Reis ul-Ulama Kavazovic thanked Ambassador Wigemark for the visit and informed him on the situation of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador Wigemark underlined the important role played by the Islamic Community and expressed his interest in an in-depth exchange and cooperation not only between the EU Delegation/EUSR and the Islamic Community but also with the School of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo. Both agreed on the need for a continued dialogue between different religious communities. Ambassador Wigemark stressed that the EU is a union of multicultural and multi-religious societies. All EU citizens need to show tolerance and understanding of their respective religious communities. He added that the Islamic Community in BiH has played a very important role during the past 500 years and has made an essential contribution to society and culture across the Western Balkans.

This is the second in a series of meetings that Ambassador Wigemark is having with leaders of the religious communities in BiH. Ambassador Wigemark previously met with the Archbishop and Metropolitan of Vrhbosna, Cardinal Vinko Puljic, in May 2015.
