The Project team of the „Strengthening of the BiH Accreditation System” is organizing the Kick-off Meeting of the EU funded Project „Strengthening of the BiH Accreditation System” that will take place on November 4, 2009 at the Delegation of the European Commission to BiH, Skenderija 3 a, Sarajevo, starting at 10.00h.
The 1 million Euro worth Project was launched in October 2009 with the overall objective to further develop the quality infrastructure, in line with the provisions of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), and to create an enabling environment to strengthen the international competitiveness of BiH and to improve its economy.
Accreditation systems – if working according to international standards and requirements – are an important building block in breaking down technical barriers to trade by enabling faster and cost effective trade of goods and services in the market as well as ensuring better protection and confidence of consumers in respect to quality of goods and services.
Due to the growing recognition of the importance of accreditation to the EU’s economic infrastructure, the European Commission developed the EU Regulation 765/2008 setting out the requirements for accreditation and market surveillance relating to the marketing of products. This regulation provides for the first time a legal framework for the provision of accreditation services across Europe. The integration of BiH into the European quality infrastructure regimes is important to help enterprises developing international competitiveness, an export market and support economic growth. The strengthening of the accreditation system plays an integral part in improving BiH’s quality infrastructure and ensures that conformity assessment bodies conduct their work in conformity with European standards and directives.
The beneficiary, the Institute for Accreditation of Bosnia and Herzegovina – BATA, the consortium implementing the project and the main contents and benchmarks of the project will be presented at the Kick-off Meeting.
