Thematic week: Internet Fair at Sarajevo Economics Faculty

As part of the EU’s Thematic Week project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an Internet Fair was organised at the Sarajevo Economics Faculty with a view to offering BiH students insight on advanced modules and technologies that use the Internet in the education process.

The fair was both promotional and educational, and featured lectures on Distance Learning, by Prof. Kemal Kačapor, and on the Role of the Internet in Society, by Mirad Maglić, a Technology Strategist at Microsoft BiH.

Microsoft’s representative presented programs such as “Imagine Cup” and “Dreamspark”, which are aimed at higher education.

“Microsoft believes that students are an engine of human potential,” Mr Maglić said, adding that the Fair was an opportunity to introduce students to Microsoft’s philosophy and show how particular technologies can be used “socially or technically” to promote economic growth and improve living standards.

Professor Kačapor pointed out that statistics on Internet traffic at BiH universities show that Sarajevo Economics Faculty accounts for 82 percent of overall traffic.

“In many areas, the Faculty is at a very high level of technologically supported education,” he said. “For years now, we have had a Distance Learning program, under which professors record their lectures, and students can view them whenever they wish at out Internet page.”

As part of the Thematic Week, information booths were set up in the Economics Faculty auditorium by Microsoft, Apple, and Info Magazine, as well as the Delegation of the European Union, offering students a chance to learn about the latest technological developments, and also about different scholarship programs in EU countries and projects supported by the Union.

At the same time, Sarajevo Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, as part of the Scholarship Fair project, maintained at its own premises an information booth related to the Internet Fair, presenting scholarship programs open to Western Balkan students as well as other educational programs supported by the EU.
