Bologna Process Presentation at Sarajevo University

A presentation on the Bologna Process and European Areas of Higher Education and Research was held on 24 February 2010 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Sarajevo, as part of the EU-supported project “Thematic Weeks”.

Speaking to the students gathered in the Chemistry Department lecture hall, Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahić., focused on the advantages and future possibilities of the Bologna Process for BiH students.

“Within the TEMPUS programme – the best known European programme supporting the transformation of higher education in Southeast Europe – we worked from 1997 to 2000 on a project to establish the “3+2” study model; that means we were two years ahead of the European higher-education ministers signing the Bologna Declaration,” Professor Avdispahić noted.

Bosnia and Herzegovina signed the Bologna Declaration on 18 September 2003. With this signature the country embarked on the Bologna Process aiming at creation of a single European system of university teaching and research by 2010, alongside recognising and preserving diversities of national characteristics  (culture, language tradition etc.)

“The first project under which Sarajevo University was the implementing partner in the agreement signed with the European Union was the official introduction of doctoral study at the European level as the third cycle in higher education,” Professor Avdispahić said.

The audience wanted to know more about the programmes that will be made available under the Bologna Process, and students attending the presentation came from the Philosophy and Sports faculties as well as the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

In addition to Sarajevo University, presentations on the Bologna Process will be organised at faculties in Banja Luka and Mostar.
