„My European Weekend“ started in Banja Luka

The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina is organising a series of events to mark the “Enlargement Week“- the week in which the European Commission adopts the “Enlargement package“ or set of documents on its enlargement policy.

The first in a serial of “My European Weekend“ started in Banja Luka on Saturday 13 November, 2010 in Mercator Shopping Centre.

The event had an educational character and was designed to bring information on EU closer to children and adults. The children and adults divided into teams of ”moms” and ”dads” were participating in puzzle competition while famous children star ̋Nidžo cvrčak” was entertaining them and other visitors. Also, educational material prepared by the Delegation of EU and Directorate for European integration was distributed.

”My European Weekend” started in Banja Luka as a first in a series of events that will take place throughout BiH. This is very important weekend because it is taking place alongside with presentation of Progress Report about state of play of BIH in its progress toward EU integration. The purpose of events like this is to inform citizens on what  EU integration means, what  the main principles and perspectives of that process are and what it takes to get there”, stated Mr. Giulio Zanni, Head of EUD Office in Banja Luka. 

The competition participants were also family- members of NGOs ”Žene to Mogu”- (Women can do it) and ”Četiri Plus”-(Four Plus) from Banja Luka. ”My European Weekend” was not only attractive for competitors but also for visitors and children present at the Shopping Mall.  .

“My European Weekend“ events will take place on: 20 November in Tuzla, 21 November in Brčko, 27 November in Mostar and 28 November in Sarajevo.

EU enlargement has helped to overcome divisions in Europe and has contributed to peace and stability across the continent. This process has inspired reforms and consolidated common principles of liberty, democracy, and respect for human rights.
