“My European Weekend” concludes in Sarajevo

“My European Weekend” is an initiative launched by the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion  of presentation of this year’s Progress Report. The objective of this initiative has been to organize events that explain what European Union  is and to incorporate fun activities that communicate aspects of EU integration. The program has been designed with young people, children and their families in mind and the events have been mounted in shopping malls”, stated Constantino Longares Barrio, Head of Finance, Contract and Audit Section in the EU Delegation to BiH, during the event in Sarajevo.

“My European Weekend” events were held in in Tuzla, Brčko, Banja Luka, and concluded with an event in  Mostar on 27 November and one in Sarajevo on 28 November. Hundreds of children and young people participated in each of the five cities.

“The EU Delegation to BiH has drawn up a broad program designed to communicate key messages about European Union and about Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration,” Constantino Longares Barrio, Head of the Delegation’s Finance, Contract and Audit Section, said during the Sarajevo event. “In 2012 we intend to organize even more events in more towns and cities around the country, offering activities for children, students and young people as a whole, explaining how EU integration can affect citizens’ lives”, added Longares Barrio.

EU enlargement has helped to overcome divisions in Europe and has contributed to peace and stability across the continent. This process has inspired reforms and consolidated common principles of liberty, democracy, and respect for human rights
