The International Drawing Competition on Gender Equality has been carried out by the European Commission since 2007 with great success. The Competition is going to be organized in the regions: Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Latin America, Mediterranean; other European Countries including Easter Neighbours of the EU and Pacific and the theme was chosen at the occasion of women’s international day on 8 March 2011.
For the first time, this year, the Competition will be organized in Bosnia and Herzegovina in joined activity of the Delegation of EU in B&H and EU Info centres in B&H.
The objective of the Competition is to call on children between 8-10 years old to express their vision on gender equality.
Earlier Competition has been able to raise the awareness on gender equality of both children and adults, as well as giving the Delegations the opportunity of opening the debate at institutional level by involving the relevant national and local authorities.
The Competition will follow the Rules and the Calendar obligatory for all participants. General provisions from the Rules say:
- Competition is for the children between 8-10 years old
- Children should be citizens of B&H
- Children should be students in B&H schools
- The drawing should express children vision of the competition’s theme
- The drawing has to be produced on an A4 size sheet only on one side of the sheet
- The drawing may have the caption that not exceed 5 lines and should be on the same side as the drawing
- The first name, the last name and the age of the child, as well as class and address of the school should be written on the back of the drawing
- The drawing should be sent by 20th May 2011 at the latest to the Delegation of EU in B&H, Skenderija 3a, Sarajevo, for attn. Of Ms. Edita Redzepagic
- Commission consisted of three expert members within the Delegation of EU in B&H will select and send to Brussels for further selection 10 drawings by 3th of June 2011
According to the Rules and the Calendar of the events the following will be performance in Brussels:
- A jury composed of peer European children will select 14 best drawing out of which the two will be from our region
- Award will be given to the winner of each region at the equivalent of 1 000 Euros
- The drawings of the winners will be published in a booklet which will be distributed in the schools of the participating countries and present at the Musee des Enfants, Brussels
Also, 10 drawings selected by the competent commission will be symbolically together awarded by the Delegation of EU in B&H an EUICs in B&H. Information about the awarded winners will be published on the EU Delegation’s web site at www.europa.eu and on the web side of the EU info centres in B&H at www.euroinfocentar.ba and in the Bulletin of the EU info centres for June 2011.
EU info centres in B&H will send the full text of the Rules of the Drawing competition for 2011 and the Calendar, in English and local languages to the Ministries of Education at all levels and/or directly to the schools and children, participants in the Competition, at their request.
