In order to mark the Europe Day in BiH, the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the NGO „Marathon” Sarajevo, for the third time in a row, organized a 4 km long race with a symbolic title – „Run to Europe”.
This sporting event was held on Sunday, 8 May 2011 in Sarajevo. The start and finish of the race was in front of the BBI Centre (Maršala Tita Street) beginning at 10 a.m. and the route of the race passed through the following streets: Musala, Obala Kulina bana, Telali, Mula Mustafe Bašeskije.
The race brought together participants from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as from the countries in the region. A large number of students as well as representatives from the various European and international organizations, many of whom also competed in the race
The winners were awarded with prizes and medals, and the first 400 of participants of the race received a special T-shirts.
Renzo Daviddi, Acting Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nevenka Savić, Director of the BiH Directorate for European Integration delivered welcoming remarks.
Awards Ceremony and the announcement of winners took place in good atmosphere. Mirko Petrović from Užice Serbia is a winner in the male category while Danijel Vukailović from Serbia won second place and Asim Višća from Bosnia and Herzegovina third place. Medal and cup for the first place winner was awarded by Nevenka Savić, BiH Director of the Directorate for European Integration and medals for the second and third place winners were awarded by Major General Bernard Bair, the Commander of EUFOR Biljana Cvijanović from Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina is a winner in the women’s category. Desanka Čiro from Bosnia and Herzegovina won second and Selma Zrnić, also from BiH, won third place.
Medal and cup for the first place winner was awarded by Renzo Daviddi, Acting Head of the EU Delegation to BiH. Medals for the second and third place winners were awarded by Antonio Jose Mendes de Oliveira, Head of Policy office of the EU Police Mission.
