Handover ceremony of newly constructed social housing building for ten beneficiary families took place in Brčko District BiH on 7 October 2015.
The building with ten flats was constructed within the EU-funded project „Social Housing System (SHS) – Development of Integrated Model in Theory and Practice“, and with administrative and financial support of local authorities.
Under this project, six housing buildings are constructed or under construction in six different municipalities, with 62 housing units in total to support families in social need. Joint aim is to establish adequate social protection policies, modern social protection services, and specific support for refugees, returnees, homeless, youth and others in need. Further initiatives will be implemented based on the housing policies to be developed and adopted.
The ceremony was attended by Anto Domić, Mayor of Brčko District BiH, Massimo Mina, Head of Operations Section for Social Development, Civil Society and Cross-border Cooperation at the EU Delegation to BiH, Ševket Hafizović, Advisor to BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees, Sulejman Alijagić, Assistant to FBiH Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees, Suzana Jašarević, Hilfswerk Austria International Country Director for BiH and the future residents of the building.
Same ceremony also took place in Prozor-Rama on 6 October to hand over newly constructed social housing building with six housing units to beneficiaries in this municipality.
The SHS project is financed by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA 2011) in the amount of € 1.000.000 and co-funded by local authorities in the amount of € 714.905. SHS project is implemented by Hilfswerk Austria International HWA in cooperation with a non-governmental organization Foundation of Local Democracy (FLD).
Brčko District BiH strongly supported this project and the concept of social housing. It actively participated in the project implementation and provided co-funding in the amount of 150.000 KM, as well as construction land with all permissions for the housing construction.
