EUSR supports ‘Let’s Do It’ tree-planting initiative

Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, expressed his support for this year’s forestation activity organized by the movement Let’s Do It! in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thousands of volunteers planted seedlings all across the country on 24 October.

“Let’s Do It! tree-planting activity is happening as countries across the world are preparing to achieve a new global agreement on climate change in Paris in December. Many of us have seen – and even experienced – the effects of climate change. The vast amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere makes the planet warm up faster than ever. In many ways, trees can help reduce these effects. For the European Union, preventing destabilising climate change and adapting to its consequences are key priorities, and we are again proud to support thousands of volunteers who will be planting seedlings across the country. Such citizen-driven, volunteering actions show how each of us can take steps and make choices to tackle this global issue,” said Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.

This is the third year that the EUSR has supported Let’s Do It! in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the largest ecological voluntary movement that organizes annual actions of removing illegal garbage dump sites and reforesting of forest and public spaces.

“Let’s Do It! movement has existed in Bosnia and Herzegovina for four years and we have always tended to be the moving force behind positive social changes. With our work and commitment, we want to reinforce the hope of a better future and the belief that this country can be a better and nicer place to live. We are proud of the support of the EU Special Representative and happy with our successful partnership since 2013. The volunteering tree action reminds elderly of their youth, and gives hope of a better future to the young,” said Junuz Elkaz, Let’s Do It! team leader.
