Ambassador Wigemark attends marking of the 70th anniversary of the National and University Library of BiH

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark attended today in Sarajevo the ceremony organised on the occasion of marking the 70th anniversary of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was organised under the patronage of the BiH Minister of Civil Affairs, Adil Osmanovic.

Ambassador Wigemark stressed the importance of libraries which have immense cultural and historical value and tell the human narrative of a country. In that sense, Ambassador paid tribute to the staff of the National Library for the work they have done, very often under difficult conditions.

Ambassador also thanked  Minister Osmanovic and BiH authorities for finding temporary solution to finance the National and University Library and six other institutions of culture, including the National Museum of BiH and expressed hope that permanent solution will be soon found to resolve the status of these important institutions and their financing.

In addition to Ambassador Wigemark, Minister Osmanovic and Director of the Library, Ismet Ovcina, remarks were also delivered by  FBiH Minister of Science and Education, Elvira Dilberovic, member of the BiH Academy of Science and Art, Dr Mirko Pejanovic, and representative of Austrian Ambassador in BiH.
