Continued work by BiH on commitments needed for viability of TRANSCO

Commenting on the conclusions of the meeting between ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of the European Commission on electricity transmission, EUD/EUSR spokesperson Andy McGuffie said:

“The energy sector is key for the economic development of the country and it is important that there is a continued commitment to work jointly to ensure that the country reaps the economic benefits.”

“In this context we welcome the conclusions reached at the ministerial meeting in Brussels. We underline again that BiH stakeholders need to work closely in line with the commitments made to ensure that BiH TRANSCO is a fully functional and viable company. Most importantly there is a common understanding that adoption of TRANSCO’s 10 year transmission network development plan along with the investment plans is essential. Based on the agreement reached during the meeting the draft investment plan will be produced in close consultation with the Energy Community Secretariat to ensure its compliance with requirements of the Energy Community.

“We also welcome the support given by all sides to continue working closely with the aim to ensure that Bosnia and Herzegovina complies with all obligations from the Energy Community Treaty, including completing relevant legislative work. After the finalisation of the technical assistance project provided by the EU’s IPA funds, all relevant stakeholders now have the opportunity to analyse the proposals of the EU-funded experts and to make use of them in line with EU standards.”
