Inzko meets Ban Ki-moon

Following his address to the UN Security Council, the High Representative and EU Special Representative Valentin Inzko met today with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York to inform him on the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the priorities in the next few months.

“Our short-term priority is to achieve speedy progress in meeting the conditions and objectives set by the PIC. This is foremost the responsibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its political leaders, who have to demonstrate that they are ready to take the fate of their country into their own hands”, Inzko said.

Domestically led process of constitutional reform must also be launched, “Bosnia and Herzegovina has begun the process of EU integration under its Dayton constitution, in order to become a member of the EU it will need to improve functionality of the State and its institutions.”, said the HR/EUSR.

Inzko also stressed that the recent joint visit of EU High Representative Javier Solana and US Vice-President Joseph Biden has served to convey a united message of EU-US engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
