„Connecting Creatively“ – schools, cinema, theatre and museums together for a centenary celebration / general overview of the EU funded projects for Sarajevo 2014

On 16th June, the British Council in BiH organised a presentation of four projects under the umbrella name “Connecting Creatively” at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This was one of the activities of the Foundation “Sarajevo Heart of Europe” and the EU funded Programme “Sarajevo 2014″ marking the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War.

Through film, dance, theatre and exhibitions dedicated to global cultural history, educational activities and international cooperation, the Programme “Sarajevo 2014″ will mark the centenary of the beginning of WWI by the promotion of the ideas of integration in the Western Balkans and of a common European future.

Andy McGuffie, Head of Communication and Spokesperson at the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina/EUSR, thanked the British Council and all partners involved for producing an imaginative and exciting programme. “It has the potential to touch and reach so many people in BiH but also internationally; this matches well the key goals of the EU, promotion of regional and international cooperation.”

The “Connecting Creatively” programme of activities connects theatres, museums, cinema and classrooms, aiming to transform this collective work into sustainable effects beyond 2014 and it includes the projects:

  • Connecting Film – a cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival and the British Film Institute;
  • Connecting Theatres – a cooperation with the Sarajevo War Theatre SARTR, Nottingham Playhouse and ODA Theatre from Pristina;
  • Connecting Museums – a cooperation with the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Imperial War Museums in London;
  • Connecting Classrooms – a project that connects schools from Bosnia and Herzegovina with partner schools from Scotland, Spain and Poland.

The projects are implemented by the British Council in cooperation with local and international partners and were presented by: Larisa Halilović, Director, British Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Mirsad Purivatra, Director, Sarajevo Film Festival; Nihad Kreševljaković, Director, Sarajevo War Theatre SARTR; Elma Hašimbegović, Director, Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Samir Avdibegović, Project and Partnership Manager, British Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
