EUFOR Operation Commander’s visit underlines EU commitment to safe and secure environment

Head of Delegation/EUSR Ambassador Peter Sorensen welcomed General Sir Adrian Bradshaw, EUFOR ALTHEA Operation Commander/Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, to the EU Delegation/EUSR Office. The General’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, his first following his taking up duty on 28 March 2014, focuses on assisting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s efforts to manage ammunition, weapons and explosives (AWE) and on capacity building efforts in the defence sector of BiH. The General will take part in the fifth session of the Strategic Committee on AWE on 7th May, which aims to facilitate progress in AWE disposal.
 
Ambassador Sorensen welcomed the important role that EUFOR plays in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its cooperation with the civilian presences of the EU in-country.
 
The meeting also included discussion of the recent Conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU relating to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador Sorensen noted that in line with the broadening of the EU agenda, an major economic forum hosted by the EU will take place at the end of the month to assist the BiH authorities to identify concrete socio-economic structural reforms to reinvigorate the economy and spur the creation of jobs.
