OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities visited EUD/EUSR

Ms Astrid Thors, OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities, was welcomed to the EU Delegation/EUSR Office by Ambassador Peter Sorensen during her visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The High Commissioner’s work focuses on identifying and addressing causes of ethnic tensions and conflicts; she may publish thematic Recommendations and Guidelines that give advice on common challenges and best practice.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sorensen expressed his gratitude for the very good cooperation on the ground with the OSCE particularly in the fields of human rights and freedom of media. After reviewing the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the lack of progress in EU integration, Ambassador Sorensen and High Commissioner Thors discussed the need to eliminate segregation in education, and the importance of regional cooperation particularly on issue such as the return of refugees and inclusion of Roma.

Ambassador Sorensen underlined the efforts the EU is making to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina to address priority economic issues including through a forum on jobs and prosperity at the end of May.
