Regional co-operation council is a key supporter of EU enlargement process

The Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council, Goran Svilanovic addressed the ambassadors to BiH of EU Member States and South-East Europe (SEE) Candidate Countries (FYROM, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey – which are also RCC participating States) at a Thematic Meeting on Regional Cooperation in SEE, in Sarajevo today.

The Head of the EU Delegation to BiH/EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, welcomed the Secretary General and stressed the importance of the RCC, which monitors all levels of regional cooperation.

“The RCC helps the Enlargement process by looking at the ‘big picture’ and identifying existing gaps in cooperation and the key priorities of the region in addressing them”, Ambassador Sorensen said.

The RCC functions as a focal point for regional cooperation in SEE and its key role is to generate and coordinate developmental projects of a wider, regional character, to the benefit of each individual participant, and create an appropriate political climate for their implementation.

The work of the RCC focuses on the priority areas of economic and social development, energy and infrastructure, justice and home affairs, security cooperation, building human capital, and parliamentary cooperation as an overarching theme.
